My art is about detail, the fine detail of natural, delicate, textural objects. I like to focus on the smallest of fascinating objects in our amazing Blue Mountains environment or at home and highlight the unique elements of the object in large scale so everyone can see what I can see. Seeing beauty and humour in the smallest of things around me fascinates and inspires me.
My current work emphasises the detail and tonal variations of beautiful objects from my garden, from amazing bush walks in the Blue Mountains, and from my studio. As I find the objects so beautiful, I used pencil and charcoal as my medium as I wanted the form, tonal ranges, textures, fluid lines and unique characteristics to be emphasised with minimal distraction from surrounding imagery and colour. The initial line work for the charcoal banksia pod work was drawn using a burnt banksia pod which was lots of fun.
The two fibre-works are produced with dried Banksia flower spikes and Protea Florets. I find these elements of the plant so beautiful so wanted them to be shown in their natural form taking on a shape that emulates the original flower they came from, a Banksia pod and a Protea flower.
